Poet

On 29 July 1922 Luciano Degiovanni was born in Sanremo. He was the son of Giuseppe, plumber and Giuseppina Seneca.

He completed his studies at the Professional Start-up School and carried out various trades: craftsman, plumber and delivery boy.
A passionate reader, he dedicated himself to reading the great classics, especially the English ones.
It was Carlo Betocchi in 1956 who published the first verses of the "Stagnino poet" as he called him, in the magazine Letteratura.

In 1957 he made his debut with the collection of verses "Viaggio che non finisce" reviewed by Caproni. Subsequently he obtained a great critical success with several works: "With you prisoner" "Cautiously present" "The wood" "attempt to sing a cloud" "only the leaf" "The white mountain".

Pablo Neruda, who called him "poet verdadero", said well about him.
He collaborated with numerous literary magazines including Il Ponte, Letteratura and Accademia.
He died in Montichiari on 3rd December 2001.

More recently his works have been published by the Philobiblon editions which, in 2001, collected in a box set three of his most important poetic works.

The only narrative evidence of Luciano De Giovanni, Le case vicino al torrente, published by Philobiblon posthumously, eight years after the death of the poet from Sanremo, is not, as Stefano Verdino rightly writes in the rich and original afterword, an autobiographical book but an album of memories that is browsed with growing interest and moved participation.
