Built at the end of the 19th century

One of the most prestigious hotels in Sanremo was originally built on three floors.

The Hotel in the '20sIt was subsequently raised in October 1906 to a design by Pietro Agosti, the engineer-architect who, to some extent, "signed" most of the city's large hotels.

The Hotel swimming poolIn the early years of the new century, its fame was due to its special equipment that allowed its guests to have the sea water in the hotel, since ablutions with sea water were recommended by the doctors of the time to treat pulmonary diseases.

This hotel also saw many more or less illustrious people passing through its rooms. We remember in particular on the evening of 17 October 1926 when the delegation of German veterans, after the inauguration ceremony of the plaque commemorating Emperor Frederick III in Plaque commemorating Prince Federico Guglielmofront of Villa Zirio, moved to the Hotel Mediterranée, where a sumptuous reception was held, attended by the highest local authorities.

During his long life he underwent many transformations, one of which was the almost complete demolition and reconstruction in the sixties, using completely different criteria.

Les deux LionsWith the worsening of the crisis of tourism and in particular of the Great Hotels, the Hotel began to lose some of its most precious pieces, including the restaurant that was entrusted to an external management with the name of "Au deux Lions" perhaps referring to the two sculptures of lion's aspect at the sides of its entrance.

The building during the demolitionThe newly built buildings in place of the HotelIt ended its activity when it was finally demolished at the end of the 90s, and in its place two modern style buildings were built, now used as a residence.

The Olympic swimming pool trampolineThe park and the splendid outdoor Olympic-size swimming pool have been preserved, but the 10-metre trampoline has been demolished.

The statue of the "Tuffolina"
In the park, on the road to the swimming pool, there is still the characteristic statue of the diving machine, called "tuffolina", sculpted by Odoardo Tabacchi for the "gazebo" on the sea of the Nobel villa, was later moved here and became very dear to the old guests of the hotel.
